The ACSAR Foundation was founded in March of 2005. It collects and aims to embody the experience of the ACSAR Association, which has been a benchmark in the field of asylum and refuge in Catalonia and Spain since the 1970s.
The Foundation’s goal is to transform praxis and provide assistance towards enhanced knowledge and learning, in order to contribute to the reflection and debate on the phenomena of international mobility, diversity and social cohesion. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the construction of a plural and diverse society while promoting the equality of citizenship rights.
The activities carried out by the ACSAR Foundation are aligned with the objective of studying the phenomena of immigration in Catalonia and Spain by utilizing European and international frameworks. ACSAR promotes positive awareness by; encouraging discussions that facilitate knowledge, respect and mutual understanding between the different groups, promoting the prestige and dissemination of the concept of asylum, providing support for collective initiatives of neighborhoods and towns in order to foster social cohesion and cultural exchange, as well as offering training workshops aimed at local public administration, entities and other professionals with a vision for adequate management of social reality as a result of the migration process.
In 2012, the ACSAR Foundation experienced a renewed momentum within the context of multidimensional crisis. ASCAR’s goal is one that revolves around reaffirming and strengthening the mission of contributing to the construction of a plural and diverse society, in promoting equal rights and the development of the opportunities necessary to meet the basic needs and the strategic interests of the citizens, while also reinforcing the aspects of the duties and responsibilities necessary for democratic coexistence. It is in this environment that the creation and analysis of new public policies favoring the processes of human mobility and social cohesion become more possible than ever.
